We were delighted to welcome Dr Evangelos Evangelou from the University of Bath last week who visited CSMS to give a lecture on his research into the notion of similarity, or closeness, between measurements which is very important in statistics and applies not only to geographical measurements but also to distances in time, between chemical molecules, genes, etc.

He presented some historical examples where taking into account the spatial features of data helped solve important problems, and discussed some of the modern applications of this concept in his own research.

We would like to thank Dr Evangelou for giving up his time and for travelling to CSMS for this lecture.
