We were delighted to host Tom Chudley today from the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge. Tom delivered a really interesting lecture on his research into how glacial lakes drain into crevasses during the year. He shared some amazing photos of his fieldwork in Greenland which involved the use of autonomous drones to take high resolution footage of lakes.
The students were amazed to hear about how the research team had to move their tents every few days to avoid the melting glacier and that some glaciers can move over 30 metres a day!
We would like to thank Tom for making the journey down to deliver this lecture, our students gain a lot from these amazing opportunities.
