We believe that children in Cornwall deserve the very best STEM Education on offer. Our Gifted STEM Programme for students from Years 7-11 has received a lot of interest nationally and has been described as ‘Breathtaking’ by NACE, the National Charity for the most able children in Education, and ‘Awesome’ by Professor Tom McLeish, Chair of the Royal Society Education Committee.
We provide specialist Science and Maths provision for the most able students at Camborne Science and International Academy, who study their Science and Maths at the Nexus Campus, where CSMS is also situated. These students are fully integrated into Camborne Science and International Academy, but also benefit from an extended and enriched curriculum and co-curricular programme on the Nexus Campus.
Our Primary outreach programme takes several forms:
We run weekly Maths Masterclasses on Monday Mornings at the Nexus Campus, led by one of our specialist Maths teachers, Ms Jen Ward. These Masterclasses are for children in Year 5 who are especially able in Maths, and allow them to explore and access Mathematics way beyond the KS2 curriculum.
Mathematics with the Royal Institution
We will soon begin running a series of Maths Masterclasses with the Royal Institution. Details of the first of these classes will be published soon.
Nexus has a dedicated Primary Outreach teacher, Mrs Ami Deacy, She provides workshops and classes for Primary schools who wish to visit and study in a lab, or using our equipment and resources at Nexus. These workshops are booked for school groups through their Primary School teacher. For further information, click here.
Gifted STEM Club is for the most able students in Science and Mathematics in years 4, 5 and 6. It runs on a regular basis at Nexus. For further details click here.
