Cornwall’s leading academic A-Level provider is launching a series of online events, giving expert advice on how students can enhance their chances of successfully applying to the most prestigious universities in the UK.
Cornwall School of Maths and Science (CSMS) will host several Virtual Outreach Sessions over the next few months. The free events include an insight into Oxbridge applications, expert advice on how to apply for medical and veterinary courses at university, and Maths enhancement seminars for GCSEs.
Any students in Years 10 and 11 in Cornwall will be able to attend the virtual series of events – irrespective of where they are currently studying.
Dan Chapman, Assistant Principal at CSMS, commented, “We’re delighted to be offering these sessions not only to our own students, but to the wider student community in Cornwall. With school life having been turned upside down over the past year, it’s all the more important to inspire our young people, show them where their studies could take them in the future, and support them to take those next steps.”
“The events are all about discussing what students can be doing now to improve their chances of success. Specifically, we’ll be covering specialist mentoring for students who wish to study at Oxford or Cambridge; tailored support for aspiring doctors, medics and dentists; dedicated resources for students pursuing animal medicine; and Maths enhancement seminars to boost chances of students achieving an 8 or 9 in their GCSE examinations.”
The sessions will be run by specialist teachers at CSMS, who will share their expertise and give attendees an insight into the unique pathways on offer at the school, as well as introducing and explaining the entrance requirements and applications processes for top UK and international universities.
CSMS officially launched their dedicated curriculum pathways last year; Oxbridge, Veterinary, Medical and STEM. They run concurrently with other subject studies and each feature an intensive package of support, specialist mentoring, interview preparation, workshops, and tutorials for university entrance assessments.
Sarah Belshaw, Vice-Principal, commented “Our pathways have been specifically created to offer dedicated and specialist tutoring to gifted students in Cornwall. It’s not just about attaining A-Levels in particular subjects – these pathways are designed to open the doorway to a future career that has the potential to be world-changing.”
“We’re looking forward to delivering these informative Virtual Outreach Sessions to Cornwall’s school community. We’re confident they will be eye-opening and inspirational to all students who attend.”
Specialising in maths and sciences, CSMS is the top state-funded post-16 STEM provider in Cornwall, and is in the top 10% of all UK schools for A-Level performance. Additionally, 100% of CSMS students were accepted onto university courses last year.
